Day 3 & 4 - Leipzig
If there isn't much time to tell you, I'll put a couple of days of our trip in one blog.
Yesterday, we had two goals in mind - shopping and going to Thomaskirche. We accomplished both in spades.
I got smart and wrote out a list of the things we needed to remember. That worked well because we quickly forgot what was on the list.
First, we went to Thomas Kirche because that is where Johann Sebastian Bach is buried. He was the cantor and choir master in Leipzig from 1723 until has death in 1750. JS Bach underwent an eye operation by the famous, but already controversial, ophthalmologist Sir John Taylor, who was in Leipzig from April 4th to 7th, 1750. Complications require reoperation. Bach was briefly able to see again, but a few days before his death he suffered a stroke. Johann Sebastian Bach died on July 28, 1750. He was 65. The remains of Johann Sebastian Bach have been buried in the Thomaskirche since 1950. After his death on 28 July 1750, Bach was laid to rest in the hospital cemetery of the Johanniskirche in Leipzig.
Here's the Leipzig picture of me in my t-shirt. It's me and Johann!
Next stop to get a few things from the drug store. Chris Hemsworth was waiting for me. He followed me outside too then he was looking at me from the TV!. I told him we have to stop meeting so much. People will start talking!
In our family, we have an inside joke about my sister, Cathy. If there is a problem, she, somehow, comes out smelling like a rose. We nicknamed her Rose. She saw these wooden roses and had to have her picture taken with them.
We saw a passage with a beautiful tree at the end of the long hallway so we had to take a look. There was a beautifully decorated tree. I just love how everything is decorated. Germans really go all out with Christmas decorations. I've noticed every third TV commercial is about Christmas too.
Our hotel was recently painted. Pictures haven't been hung up on the walls yet. Every time we walked by a Simpsons picture, Cathy said she wanted her picture taken with it. I asked why. She said because she likes the picture. I don't get it. haha
The past two mornings, we've had breakfast at the hotel. I am cheap and usually try to find a cheap breakfast at a Cafe. If you're lucky enough to find something, you'll have walked the entire city. This trip I've learned, just pay for breakfast. It's easier and not much more money. Also, we made a couple of extra buns and put them in my lunch kit. I always bring ziplock baggies with me. You never know when you'll need one or two! Haha
Cathy now has a cold. We went to the Apotheke again today. I wanted a different cough syrup because the one I got thee days ago wasn't working and almost gone. I got a different bottle now. Hopefully, the new cough medicine works better. The pills I'm taking will take a week for me to see a difference. That's the problem with a cold. Cathy got some pills and cough medicine too.
Cathy tried out a waffle with whipped cream. She had being saying she wanted to try one before we left. It was good. I had a bite too. The whipped cream was different. You can tell it was made with vanilla sugar. Nice mild sweetness.
Tonight, we have to pack. Now that we've bought things, I'm a little concerned about getting everything into the suitcases.
We fly to Amsterdam via Munich at 1 pm tomorrow. Overnight in Amsterdam and then off to visit Heidi in Herleen. She is our social director there. I am looking forward to being with a friend who knows her way around.
Before I left I told my credit card company I would be using my card in Germany. I tried to use it yesterday and today but it was declined. Today, I called the toll free number to tell them the problem. Seems the security department didn't read the note on file so blocked the card. It doesn't matter how proactive you are, things don't always go according to plan. The card is unblocked now. I'm happy again. Wonder how long that will last?
Steps yesterday - 12,789
Steps today - 7,180. We only did what was necessary. We need to re-energize for the next leg of our trip tomorrow.
Gald to see a post today. I am hoping that you will both feel better soon and do not pass the cold back and forth. Enjoy Amsterdam!
